자기부인(自己否認)의 의미

 

“예수께서 무리와 제자들을 불러 이르시되 누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따를 것이니라” ~ 마가복음 8장34절

 

신학자 존 파이퍼(John Piper)는 이 말씀을 해석하기를 다음의 4가지로 풀어서 언급하였다.

 

* 예수 그리스도와 동행함으로 얻는 참되고 풍성한 복을 얻기 위해서는 세상의 부요함을 희생 할 수 있어야한다.

* 하나님이 인정하시는 참된 기쁨을 누리고자 하면 이 세상의 명성은 아랑곳하지 말아야한다.

* 예수그리스도의 제자가 됨으로 얻는 견고하고 영원한 안전함을 얻기 위해서는 이 세상의 허 약한 안전함은 뒤로 할 수 있어야한다.

* 천국에 들어가서 누릴 최상의 즐거움과 기쁨을 바라볼 때에 이 세상의 불완전하며 짧은 쾌 락이나 즐거움은 포기 할 수 있어야한다.

 

이 말씀과 같이 영원한 천국의 복락(福樂)을 사모하며 사는 것 즉 모든 진리와 선(善)의 원천인 하나님을 무엇보다 동경하며 사는 삶이 가장 행복한 삶이라고 씨 에스 루이스(C S Lewis)는 고백한 바 있다.

SELF-DENIAL

It is really in the Teaching of Jesus Christ, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me'(Mark 8:34)

Now the meaning of this teaching becomes,

* Deny yourself the wealth of the world so you can have the wealth of being with Christ.

* Deny yourself the fame of the world to have the joy of God's approval.

* Deny yourself the security and safety of the world to have the solid, secure fellowship of jesus.

* Deny yourself the short, unsatisfying pleasure of the world so that you can have fullness of joy and pleasure forevermore at God's right hand.
